Religious School NewsDear Families, We're off to a great start! I want to first introduce our teaching staff. Kindergarten/1st Grade is Becca Brotslaw, first year teacher and full of energy. 2nd & 3rd Grade is Laura Skolnick, a familiar and dedicated face. 4th & 5th Grade is Kelly Villalobos, an innovative lady with a lot of experience. 6th & 7th Grade is Todd Aaronson, a man with a wealth of information. Our Hebrew staff is: Avi Brotslaw in our Alef level, a young man with Judaism in his heart and soul. Rochelle Rosen has our Bet/Gimmel class, a woman with a plan for learning. Miriam Bermann in our Dalet class, a tiny lady with a great skill for Torah. Quoting the sticker I wore on the first day of Religious School, "Thank a Jewish educator today: say Todah!" We are grateful for those who pass on their knowledge of Hebrew and Judaic studies. We had over half of our Religious School parents present at our opening meeting! Thank you to all of you for your commitment to your children and their Jewish education. I hope to see all of you here for the High Holy Days. Make sure you ask your child what they have learned so far about our special holidays, and don't settle for the answer, "We haven't done anything." I assure you, they are learning. Let's hope in the New Year we can improve their communication so they may teach us a little more. Don't miss our next Family Service on Friday, October 5th. Our service leader will be the very energetic Sam from Sacramento. He is a senior in high school aspiring to be a rabbi! Our next few big events not to miss are: Family night at Funworks on Thursday, October 19, 6-9 p.m.--let's get lost in the corn maze together!--Sukkot, the Simchat Torah Celebration on Saturday, October 16, and the Consecration service on Friday, November 3. Remember being at Hebrew School and Sunday School on time weekly and having consistent attendance is a great way to start the new year! Please email me with any ideas for programming for adult or kinder or any concerns about your children. It will be a safe and memorable year. Shana Tova!Sincerely, Marlene Gonsalves Religious Education Director ![]() Remember, half of every subscription to J- will go to Congregation Beth Shalom. See your Bulletin for details. |
Introduction to Judaism ClassIntroduction to Judaism class will meet on Alternate Wednesday evenings, 7:00 p.m. at CBS begining October 18th. Judaism is a path that is intellectually challenging and emotionally compelling. Whether you are a Jew by birth, a Jew by Choice or a non-Jew seeking a connection to something greater than the sum of the parts of your life, Introduction to Judaism is for you. Come and discover the insight wisdom, humor and guidance of the generations that came before us and be encouraged to add your own personal insights to this ever growing body of knowledge. Did You Know ... ?... That the Pirkei Avot, the Wisdom of our Ancestors, tells us that, "When you assess people, tip the balance in their favor." In modern terms, we are encouraged to give the other person the benefit of the doubt. How freeing to not always suspect malicious motives and to adopt a forgiving attitude. And what an idea with which to begin the new year. Perhaps the sage Joshua ben Perachyah was on to something.
