Another Great Success

I would like to thank everyone who helped with Cafe Shalom this year--unfortunately, to list everyone's name would happily make for a long reading list, since so many people helped this year.  So, I will briefly thank all the chair people:  Valli Mendlin, Victor Meissoner, Gloria Ringsby, Marlene Gonsalves, Loren Gonella, Anthony Gonsalves, Ann Johnson, Lara Brotslaw, Josh Sigman, Eli Lester, Rabbi Art & Carol, and Laura Biewer for organizing their committees and making Cafe Shalom run so smoothly this year.  A special thank you to all the blintz rollers--we learned a lot this year which we will incorporate into next year's blintzes.  And thank you to all the volunteers.  Without you, we could not continue this wonderful tradition!

This year we netted between $20,000 and $21,000 (after expenses) and everyone who sold tickets, placed door hangers, and sponsored the event are to be commended for their hard work as well.

Next year, Anthony Gonsalves and Dan Brotslaw have agreed to co-chair Cafe Shalom.  It will be the first weekend of May, so please mark your calendars now.  We would like to see more first-time families get involved.  It really is a wonderful and rewarding experience to open our doors so the community may experience some of our Jewish Culture.

Religious School News

Dear Families, Past, Present, and Future:

As the Religious school year has come to a close, we are working on the planning for the 2008-2009 year ahead.  The Religious School committee, Rabbi Gould and I are discussing possible format and curriculum changes for the coming year.

Rabbi Gould and the committee have compiled some questions for YOU.  A selected group of YOU will be getting a call to talk about YOUR needs, wants, opinions and overall comments regarding our Religious School and Hebrew school.  If you do not get a call over the next couple of weeks, but would like to give your input, please email me.  We want to always work on improving all of our educational programming and we cannot continue to get better without YOUR help.

The committee, composed of:  Matt Doyle, Kelly Villalobos, Mary Drabkin, Marla Kitzmann, Joshua Sigman, Linda Gough, Eve Quesada, and I will be your survey callers.  Our goal is to do in-person surveys, but we know that isn't always possible.  Please make time for these dedicated volunteers when they call on YOU.  Let's all work together to make Jewish education a positive choice.

Shalom ouka

Thank you for all of your hard work at Cafe Shalom! I appreciated the hard work and dedication shown by each one of you to make this year's event a success. I appreciate all the volunteer hours you all put in. It is great when our Jewish community comes together as a team. As a parent trying to raise Jewish children in Modesto, it is particularly important to me that my children have a synagogue and religious school to attend, and I know I speak for all Sunday School parents when I extend a big heartfelt thank you to all of you! Your time is very much appreciated.
